Asphalt pavement is one of the most common materials used in driveways, roads, and parking lots. It’s a resilient material, but wear and tear over time can cause damage which will impact cars that drive on it. This video shows how to conduct asphalt repairs and get your pavement back in shape.
The pavement in the video is offset by a tree root that has spread beneath the concrete. The contractors dig a hole to see the size of the root. It’s three inches in diameter, which means they can remove it without doing harm to the tree.
The next step is to cut out the damaged section of asphalt to get access to the root. Using a special saw, the contractors cut an even section out of the pavement. They dig down and expose the entire root and simply rip it out with their hands.
The soil underneath then needs to be compacted. They use sledge hammers to do this and then throw pack on top. It’s a mixture of rocks and concrete which is then tamped down to form a solid support layer for the new asphalt.
