It is a homeowner’s responsibility to follow proper fire prevention techniques to protect themselves, their family, and their home. This video explains a few of the basic things you can do to help prevent fires.
One of the most common causes of a house fire comes from the combination of a stove and a broiler drawer. The broiler drawer is not a storage place for pots, pans, towels, hot pads, or other things. Leaving things in your drawer under the stove can lead to fires when you use your oven.
Another common cause is faulty toasters. Other appliances, like microwaves, can also be problematic if they aren’t working well. It’s also important to make sure your dryer is clear of debris, especially the dryer filter and dryer exhaust vent. Don’t let your dryer run while you are not at home.
It’s also unwise to leave candles unattended. Even if you are home, make sure to extinguish candles when you leave a room. You can always relight it, but you may not be able to stop a fire if one starts. It’s always better to be safe, not sorry.
