Sometimes it’ fun to indulge our fantasies. While many folks are looking at ways of cutting wedding costs and attempting to “make more with less,” daydreaming about exotic weddings is still free. The best wedding places are often right in our backyards (literally), but don’t let that stop you from dreaming big. Here are three exotic, international, no-holds-barred spots to declare your vows and embark on a life’s journey with your beloved.
Prater Park, Vienna, Austria
Prater park is famed, in part, for the private cabins on its Giant Ferris Wheel, originally built back in 1897 (don’t worry, it’s up to modern snuff). You and your spouse-to-be can tie the not in one of the 15 cabins that line the wheel, which is 65 meters high. Each cabin is individually designed to mirror a historical period, from the Roman Empire up through the mid-20th century. Apparently, the Art Nouveau cabin can accommodate a dozen people!
Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa
You’ll need to rid a cable car up to the top of the mountain, but it’ll be worth it to exchange your vows against the gorgeous seaside city-spread below. Breathtaking views and fresh, open air will characterize an intimate ceremony you’ll never forget.
Highclere Castle, Berkshire, England
Tie the knot where “Downton Abbey” is filmed! But this castle is famed beyond it’s television celebrity: it’s also the ancestral home of Lord and Lady Carnarvon whose forebear, the fifth Earl, is co-credited with the discovery of King Tut’s tomb in 1922. The saloon, which is located at the castle’s heart, is licensed for civil ceremonies. Adorned inside with ancient Egyptian artifacts and outside with gorgeous lawns and gardens, this is a scenic delight with numerous cultural histories in play.
Naturally, the best wedding places aren’t always the most sensible ones — but that all depends on what we mean by “best.” Some folks are perfectly content to use cheap wedding reception halls, keeping the focus on the spirit of the event and affordability, while others are intent on outdoor wedding venues with an accent on scenery and nature. Whatever your notions about places to have a wedding, we thought these three were at least fun to fantasize about.
